We Need You

We are looking for a web-savvy volunteer to post to our website. The individual needs basic WordPress web skills, but need not have any design, formatting or writing skills. Those things might come in handy in the future, but just now we are looking for help in posting stories and photos. It would be helpful, though not absolutely required, if the volunteer lives locally. We anticipate this to require several hours a month on an as-needed basis. Please contact Susan Minnich, Human Resources Manager at

VIM in Huffington Post

It’s Giving Tuesday today, November 29th, and Claudia Ricci has written about VIM for the Huffington Post. In its fifth year, Giving Tuesday is described on the organizational website as “a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration,” as a kick-off to the holiday charitable season. We are thrilled to be included in the Huffington Post, and urge you to tell your friends!

Speakeasy Gala

“Knock three times and whisper the password ….VIM” … opened the door to a dazzling and beautifully decorated Speakeasy Cabaret. Women in flapper dresses – slim black dresses with fringe, long strings of pearls and feathered headbands – men in black shirts, tuxedos and fedoras were seen among the more than 180 guests at the annual Volunteers in Medicine GALA.  All were surrounded by ferns and palm trees courtesy of Ward’s Nursery and Garden Center. Golf Tournament

Golf season 2015 is quickly coming to close in the Berkshires, but earlier this fall, VIM was a big winner on the links.  Our clinic was chosen to be the recipient of all the proceeds from the annual Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) Community Classic Golf Tournament at The International in Bolton.  VIM Board member Dr. Jeff Blake and Clinical Care Coordinator Ilana Steinhauer spoke about VIM’s mission to an enthusiastic group of golfers. Board member Nancy Fernandez Mills and VIM Development Director Jeff Bliss joined Ilana and Dr. Blake in accepting a check for more than $76,000.  Thanks so much to BCBS for this honor and substantial financial support.

VIM Gala a Record-Breaking Success

It was a great party and a heart-warming evening.  A dixieland band greeted guests as they arrived; a wandering jester plied his trade; delicious hors d’oeuvres were plentiful.  Multiple strands of “bling” matched the glitter of the décor and contributed to VIM’s fabulous Mardi Gras Gala which broke previous attendance records at 227 supporters, 40 more attendees than last year, according to VIM Board Trustee Jane Salamon of the Development Committee. A Fabulous Evening for VIM’s Fabulous Chefs Dinner

A brisk but clear spring evening welcomed 80 guests to the VIM Berkshires Fabulous Chefs Dinner held Monday May 18th at Wheatleigh in Lenox. Wheatleigh Hotel has been described as “the most sophisticated country house hotel in America. The stately 19th century palazzo offers brilliant cuisine and flawless service in the grand European tradition.” The venue lived up to its reputation in every way – the public rooms are elegant; the service impeccable and attentive, the view spectacular. The food presentation was a work of art, and a treat for the palette. The gracious Chef, Jeffrey Thompson, and his staff made this a memorable evening.

The Fabulous Chef’s Dinner committee was headed by co-chairs Vicki Bonnington, Catherine Mandel and Lauren Hyde, supported by VIM’s Director of Development, Jeffrey Bliss. Together they orchestrated a splendid gathering – this event has become a VIM Berkshires spring tradition. Prior to the dinner, guests enjoyed champagne and hors d’oeuvres in the lobby while some ventured outdoors to take note of the waning evening and the fading view of distant mountains from the terrace lawn.

2014 Holiday Party

VIM’s ninth annual holiday party was held Monday evening, December 15th, at Dewey Hall in Sheffield. It was a delightful party, attended by about 80 volunteers and their families. Located in the center of town on Route 7, Dewey Hall is built of fieldstone, marble and shingle with a high arching ceiling and exposed beams. It was built in 1887 to honor Orville Dewey, a Sheffield resident born there in 1794 who founded the Union Library. It more than accommodates VIM’s large group in its wood-panelled space. There is a stage, a sound system, a kitchen, and adequate parking, all of which help to make our event so successful.

2014 Chef’s Dinner at Wheatleigh

VIM Chef’s Dinner took place on Monday, June 2nd, at Wheatleigh in Lenox, MA.

It was not only one of VIM’s annual fund-raising events, but the first occasion to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its existence. The stunning Wheatleigh Hotel in Lenox, MA, provided a beautiful backdrop to this special evening. The event was chaired, once again, by Vicki Bonnington (Photo: Vicki Bonnington and David Schecker, by Amy Krzanik of Rural Intelligence) with the help of her committee: Mara Handy, Catherine Mandel and Marion Simon.

Seventh Annual Fabulous Chefs’ Dinner

This sold-out event took place on Monday May 20, 2013 at the Old Inn On The Green, Zagat ‘s top-rated culinary destination in the Berkshires.

Around 75 guests gathered at the Inn for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres on the back porch before sitting down to a candle-lit, five-course elegant meal. Vicki Bonnington was once again chairing this event with her usual flair with a committee comprised of Marion Simon, Lesley Rubinger and Catherine Mandel.

Each guest chef created a dish of his/her own choosing, all featuring locally grown Spring delicacies. The chefs were: Peter Platt and Shirl Gard of The Old Inn On The Green, Shelly Williams of Haven Café and Bakery, Adam Zieminski of Café Adam, Daire Rooney of Allium Restaurant & Bar.  The wines were generously donated by Ed Domaney of Domaney’s Wines in Great Barrington.

VIM thanks everyone involved for their generosity, and a very special thank you goes to Peter Platt, and his guest chefs, as well as the entire Inn staff, for creating such a memorable evening. All proceeds will support VIM ‘s critical mission of providing healthcare for the uninsured in the Berkshires.
